At Wayne Releaf we have several CBD-only products, as well as products with CBD and THC together. When picking a product it’s easy to get confused. What is the difference? What products are available? What’s right for you? It’s difficult to understand since as Healthline states, the chemical structure is actually very similar. But the effects are distinctly unique.
Let’s look at how these compounds interact with each other.
CBD & THC – What are they, exactly?
CBD, more formally known as cannabidiol, is a compound extracted from cannabis. Short for cannabidiol, CBD accounts for up to 40% of cannabis general makeup. It’s responsible for a lot of the pain and stress relieving symptoms in cannabis.
Any CBD-only product, whether it’s an oil, tincture, or cream, is hemp-derived or marijuana-derived. Hemp-based CBD products contain less than 0.3% THC. Marijuana-based CBD products can have higher levels of THC, which is why they are regulated or banned in the United States.
THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis. This creates a “high” sensation. Besides its recreational use, THC is well-known for its pain-relieving and mood-boosting abilities. In some products, CBD and THC can act together to boost benefits while subduing negative effects to deliver a balanced entourage effect.
CBD Only
Though marijuana has been used medicinally since 2900 B.C., clinical scientific research is just showing how the plant can benefit humans. With CBD products flooding the market, research has taken on more urgency. CBD doesn’t produce a “high” like THC. What it does is help with conditions like anxiety, depression, and seizures. It also works to help with pain management and inflammation from chronic conditions.
Many people prefer products with only CBD because it provides pain relief or anxiety relief without the same psychoactive effects that THC produces. Some also choose these products if they have a job that drug tests.
CBD and THC Together
But products with CBD and THC together shouldn’t be overlooked! Known as the “entourage effect”, the combined effect of different compounds found in cannabis that work together as a whole to produce a greater effect than if working separately to produce separate effects.
For products with THC, some might be worried about the “high” effect. Keep in mind that because of the way these chemicals react with each other, CBD can actually help negate some effects from THC.
What product is right for me?
With picking a product, we have many CBD options in several forms: creams, salves, gels, patches, tablets, tinctures, lip balms, bath soaks, honey, smokable CBD-only flower, CBD vape pens, or gummies. We even have treats and shampoo for your pup! Our budtenders know all about CBD and THC and would be happy to recommend a product to fit your needs.
